16 mm² (6 AWG) Bootlace Ferrules
Compare every Termnex 16 mm² ferrule, also listed as a 6 AWG wire or bootlace ferrule — or a 6 gauge wire ferrule in everyday cable talk —. Insulated single-wire, twin and non-insulated models appear in one table, so the choice comes down to pin length and collar rather than hunting model numbers.

Where this size is used
16 mm² is the cross-section used for main feeders and distribution board terminations. A ferrule at this size does the same job as at any other: it binds the strands into a solid pin so the terminal clamps metal rather than a spreading bundle.
The part is the same whether the drawing says 16 mm², 6 AWG, 6 gauge, bootlace ferrule, wire ferrule or cord end terminal. What actually varies within this page is pin length, whether there is an insulating collar, and whether one or two conductors enter the barrel.
Not to be confused with 16 AWG. 16 AWG is 1.5 mm², about 11 times this conductor area. If the drawing says 16 AWG, use 1.5 mm² ferrules instead.

Two colours are both correct here. DIN 47002 assigns blue to 16 mm², while the configuration shown on the Termnex model pages is green. Factory options also include white or blue. Specify the colour standard with the order rather than the colour name on its own.
16 mm² and 6 AWG ferrule models
Part numbers follow cross-section + length: HE16-12 is 16 mm² with 12 mm of pin. The twin models take two 16 mm² conductors into one barrel, so they are not a drop-in alternative to a single-wire model.
Insulated single-wire
A plastic collar over the barrel. The default choice inside a panel, and the only series with any UL 486F coverage. Full range on the HE series page.
| Part no. | Pin length | Overall (L) | Collar colour | UL 486F | Pcs/pack |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HE16-12 | 12 | 22.0 | Green | — | 500 |
| HE16-18 | 18 | 28.0 | Green | — | 500 |
| HE16-35 | 35 | 45.0 | Green | — | 500 |
Twin (two conductors, one barrel)
One barrel, two conductors of the same size. Confirm the terminal accepts a twin ferrule before specifying one. Full range on the HTE series page.
| Part no. | Conductors | Pin length | Overall (L) | Collar colour | Pcs/pack |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HTE16-14 | 2 × 16 mm² | 14 | 31.3 | Green | 200 |
Non-insulated
A bare tinned copper sleeve with no collar, so no colour coding and a shorter overall length where terminal entry is tight. Full range on the HEN series page.
| Part no. | Barrel length | Overall (L) | Pcs/pack |

AWG values are catalogue and packaging labels, not mathematical conversions. Select from the conductor’s marked mm² cross-section wherever it is available. The full standard range is set out in the wire ferrule size and colour guide.
Choosing the pin length
Cross-section selects the bore; it does not select the length. Every model above accepts the same conductor, and the terminal decides which one fits. Take the stated ferrule length from the terminal manufacturer’s data, or use its strip length as the compatibility basis and confirm the pin length rather than assuming the two are equal.
HX-35WF covers the 16 mm² range. The crimp profile, not just the tool, decides whether the joint passes inspection — see the ferrule crimping guide for preparation and inspection steps, and what a crimping tool does for how the die shapes compare.
Colour coding and UL coverage
No 16 mm² model is UL Listed. UL 486F coverage is assigned per part number rather than per size band, and no part number at this cross-section is on the certificate. All models are supplied with RoHS and a CE Declaration of Conformity; if the panel needs a UL Listed ferrule, ask for the covered sizes with the quotation.
Colour is a confirmation, not an identifier: DIN 47002 reuses the same collar colours at several cross-sections across its 0.5–50 mm² range. The differences between colour standards are set out in the size and colour guide.
Ordering
- Sold by the pack. Pack quantity differs by series and length; each figure is listed in the table above.
- Other catalogue sizes and lengths are available to order; quantity and lead time are confirmed with the quotation.
- Factory packs are not split by the manufacturer.
- Mixed-size boxes covering this cross-section are listed under the wire ferrule kits.
- Not sure which series or pin length fits your terminal? Use the wire ferrule selector to filter by conductor size and requirement.
- Model-specific Declaration of Conformity and supporting compliance documents can be reviewed with the quotation.

FAQ
Which ferrule fits 16 mm² wire?
A ferrule labelled 16 mm², listed as 6 AWG in North American catalogues. Termnex lists 11 models at this cross-section across the insulated, twin and non-insulated series; they differ in pin length and collar, not in the conductor they accept.
What pin length should I use for 16 mm²?
The terminal decides, not the wire. Insulated models at this size come in 12 mm · 18 mm · 35 mm. Take the ferrule or strip-length requirement from the terminal manufacturer’s data and match it. See ferrule pin length.
Is a 16 mm² ferrule the same as a 6 AWG ferrule?
Yes. The part is manufactured to a metric standard and marked in mm²; 6 AWG is the catalogue label used for the same part in North America. There is normally no separate 6 AWG part number. The same size is also written as 6 gauge — a ‘6 gauge wire ferrule’ is this page, not a different part.
Is a 16 mm² ferrule the same as a 16 AWG ferrule?
No, and the two are easy to confuse. 16 AWG is 16 mm², roughly 11 times the conductor area of 16 mm². This page covers 16 mm². For 16 AWG see 1.5 mm² bootlace ferrules.
What colour is a 16 mm² ferrule?
DIN 47002 assigns blue at 16 mm² under DIN 46228-4. The configuration shown on the Termnex model pages is green, which is also a catalogue option at this size. Colours repeat across the range, so confirm the size marking rather than relying on colour.
Are 16 mm² ferrules sold individually?
No. They ship in factory packs; the pack quantity is listed against each model in the table above. Evaluation quantities and commercial terms are confirmed with the quotation.
