Insulated Wire Ferrules
0.3 – 150 mm² · catalogue labels AWG 24 – 300 MCM · 7 A – 405 A · 56 listed sizes

Insulated wire ferrules — also sold as bootlace ferrules, cable ferrules, or cord end terminals — terminate stranded conductor ends before they enter a screw or spring terminal. The tinned copper barrel holds every strand in a solid cylinder; the PA66 collar takes the strain and identifies the cross-section by colour.
Termnex supplies the full DIN 46228-4 range from a single production line, in both DIN and French NF C 63-023 colour sets.

AWG values in the specification tables are Termnex product catalogue and packaging labels, not mathematical conversions. Use the conductor’s marked mm² cross-section as the primary ferrule size.
If your wire documentation uses AWG, check the AWG to mm² converter before choosing a table row. It separates calculated conductor area from nominal catalogue references.

Above 50 mm² there is no standardised collar colour. DIN 46228-4 stops at 50 mm², so the colours listed for 70 –150 mm² are our production standard, not a standard requirement. Confirm the colour on the order rather than assuming it from a chart.
Colour standards
The collar colour identifies the cross-section, but two different systems are in use and they do not agree:
| mm² | DIN 46228-4 | French NF C 63-023 |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 | White | Orange |
| 0.75 | Grey | — |
| 1.0 | Red | — |
| 1.5 | Black | Red |
| 2.5 | Blue | — |
| 4.0 | Grey | — |
| 6.0 | Yellow | Black |
Termnex can supply both sets. If your drawing specifies a colour, quote it on the enquiry — a red 1.5 mm² ferrule is correct under the French system and wrong under DIN, and vice versa. See our guide to wire ferrule sizes and colour codes for the complete DIN table.
North America has no colour standard at all — UL 486F is a listing standard and defines no colour system. Ferrules sold in the US carry whatever colour the manufacturer chose.
Ordering
- Sold by the pack — quantities per pack are listed in the tables above.
- Selected DIN-colour configurations are available from Termnex stock for sampling and small orders after incoming inspection.
- Other catalogue models and colour combinations are available to order; lead time is confirmed against the requested model and quantity.
- Factory packs are not split by the manufacturer.
- Mixed-size Termnex kits and refill packs are under development and are not yet standard production items.
- Model-specific Declaration of Conformity and supporting compliance documents can be reviewed with the quotation.

FAQ
What is the difference between a wire ferrule and a bootlace ferrule?
Nothing. They are the same part. Wire ferrule is the usual North American term, bootlace ferrule the usual British one, and cord end terminal is what most manufacturers print on the box.
Which pin length should I choose?
Match the pin length to the depth of the terminal’s conductor opening. A pin that bottoms out before the collar seats will not clamp properly; a pin that is too short leaves bare barrel exposed outside the terminal. 8 mm and 10 mm cover most DIN rail terminal blocks.
Do I need a different crimp tool for each size?
Not for each size, but for each range. SN-06WF covers 0.3 – 6 mm²; HX-35WF covers 6 – 35 mm². Sizes above 35 mm² need a hydraulic or heavy mechanical crimper.
Are these UL listed?
The 0.5 – 4 mm² sizes are cULus Listed. Larger sizes are not — ask before specifying them into a UL panel build.
Can I get a colour that is not listed?
Yes. Selected DIN colours are held for sampling and small orders, while other catalogue colours are confirmed against the requested model and quantity. State the colour system on the RFQ rather than relying on colour alone.
